Opportunity Knocking: Unshackled VC 2021 Fall University Fellows Application Open 🚀
The perfect environment to learn more about early-stage investing and working with high-growth startups. Check out the testimonials from our alumni and apply below 👇
At Unshackled we are bullish on students as founders and funders and are excited to announce applications are open for our fourth class of University Fellows. Venture is often celebrated as an industry built on the apprenticeship model, and we want to increase immigrant students’ access to the collective knowledge of our fund and our networks.
This year-long fellowship will include classroom-style sessions 📚 , diligence research projects 🔍 , opportunities to co-publish articles and market maps, and opportunities to connect with a growing community of students and recent grads. 🚀
We believe that our program is best for students that are looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of early-stage ventures and what it looks like to work with high-growth startups. (Note: This is not a scout program or an incubator.)
Highlights from Our Alumni
As we open up access to capital for immigrant entrepreneurs, we’d like to do the same for those 1st and 2nd generation immigrants students currently working from their dorm rooms and bedrooms all over the world —check out what some of our former fellows are currently up to here and here!
What did you enjoy most about the Unshackled experience?
Jarrod: The Community! Meeting a diverse group of student investors who are passionate about technology — everything from FemTech (shoutout to Kiana Afshar!) to Future of Work (shoutout to Alex Ker!) to launching their own campus ecosystems (shoutout to Amil Naik!) — has been transformational. The Unshackled community has opened doors, created friendships, and expanded my perspective far beyond my expectation.
What advice do you have for those considering applying?
Amil: Take the leap of faith and go for it if you’re interested in startups. Go in with an open mind and you will learn so much from everyone around you. Hone your passion, skillset, and voice and be confident in who you are. If you’re interested in doing something now, jump right in and learn from the experience. The lessons you gain from doing it will serve you well now and pay dividends in the future.
What’s next for you?
Jess: This summer, I’m interning at Share VC through the Black Venture Capital Consortium’s summer internship program, which also includes facilitating a summer pitch competition. Beyond that, I’m excited to graduate in December and continue working on my startup idea.
